Researchers from GEIMAC group have developed a clinical screening test to assess cognitive deficits in psychiatry

The SCIP-S test is a screening tool to assess the most common cognitive deficits of patients suffering psychotic or affective disorders. Researchers from GEIMAC group of the Institute of Neurosciences arranged an agreement with a relevant biopharmaceutical company, which provided funds for the validation process of this test. As a result, the SCIP-S was published in 2014 by Tea Ediciones, and nowadays is being used in more than 40 hospitals in Spain. In less than two years around 350 copies of the SCIP-S have been sold, and it has been translated to several languages (like Arabic, Danish, Italian, French, German, and Japanese, among others).

The main advantage of this new test is that neuropsychologists are able to assess the cognitive deficits of their patients in only 15 minutes. “A full neuropsychological examination is often very long and requires advanced training in psychological assessment. The SCIP-S requires minimal training or special assessment equipment, thus our test is very useful in routine clinical practice”, says Georgina Guilera, one of SCIP-S authors.

Recently, GEIMAC group has arrange a new agreement with a sport consulting company to validate a personality test addressed to achieve the optimal performance of elite athletes. This test is being used by some professional teams of several sports (basketball, handball and synchronized swimming, among others), and researchers are analysing the obtained results to confirm its usefulness in coaching and team dynamics.
