On March 11th, 2025, we celebrated the NeuroArt Gala at the CCCB. It was a highly anticipated event, where students had the opportunity to present their artworks directly in front of the jury.
The exhibition commenced with our host, Bibiana Morales, introducing the event and outlining the program for the evening. Following this, Bàrbara Roig, Head of Educational Programs at CCCB, Cristina Maragall, President of the Fundació Pascual Maragall, and Jordi Alberch, Director of the Institute of Neurosciences at the University of Barcelona, warmly welcomed the audience.
The participating schools were divided into two groups: Dendrites and Axons. The first group began by defending their artworks in front of the jury at the CCCB Hall, while the second group engaged in a Cine-forum debate. This activity involved watching short films provided by the Brain Film Festival, which explored themes related to mental health. After the screenings, students had an open discussion with researchers from our Institute, where they could express their thoughts, doubts, and concerns. Once both activities were completed, the groups switched roles.
The jury panel consisted of Olga Subirós, an exhibition curator and architect who provided artistic feedback; Lupe Sória, a neuroscientist specializing in neuroimaging and neurodegenerative diseases from the Institute of Neurosciences at the University of Barcelona; and Jordi Costa, a neuroscientist specializing in cognition and the auditory system at the same institute. The Cine-forum debate featured two expert speakers: Esther Perez-Navarro, a neuroscientist specializing in neurodegenerative diseases, and Jose Valenzuela, an expert in neuroscience, engineering, literature, and artificial intelligence, both from the Institute of Neurosciences at the University of Barcelona.
During the jury’s deliberation, two actors from PLANETA IMPRO entertained the audience with a dynamic and engaging improvised performance, adding a touch of spontaneity and humor to the evening.
