Graduate Programs

Most researchers at the Institute of Neurosciences also hold professorships at the University of Barcelona, actively contributing to a variety of Master’s and doctoral programs. These formal educational pathways offer exceptional opportunities for professional growth in neuroscience for aspiring researchers and students passionate about cutting-edge research.

  • The Master degrees related to the Institute of Neurosciences are highly specialized. Students will have the opportunity to develop a guided research project and to learn innovative techniques.

  • PhD students are the most valuable asset of the Institute of Neurosciences. In our institution, we promote a high quality international scientific environment, and we encourage collaborations between research groups, international mobility and attendance to conferences and workshops. In addition, we foster the creation of a PhD students’ group of the Institute of Neurosciences, to facilitate experience-sharing and participative activities.

Master’s degree

The master’s degree Neurosciences, provides interdisciplinary training in subjects ranging from molecular biology to cognitive studies and neuroimaging. It aims to equip future researchers in basic and clinical research with the knowledge needed to address problems by means of a cross-disciplinary approach and become skilled members of laboratories in public and private institutions.

The program is also designed for professionals (physicians, psychologists, veterinary scientists, etc.) who want to update their knowledge about the most important areas of the neurosciences. Research is the primary focus of the master’s degree Neurosciences.

The Master course of Research in Behaviour and Cognition, coordinated by Ferran Pons, is designed to train researchers to an internationally competitive level in behavioural sciences, specifically in the areas of personality and behaviour, cognition and plasticity, and in research methodology in behavioural sciences. The teaching plan consists of a number of subjects that provide an overall update in the contents of these areas, complemented with solid training in research methodology and other related topics, such as neuroscience. The master’s degree also grants access to doctoral studies, with continuity offered mainly through the UB doctoral program in Brain, Cognition and Behaviour.

The Master’s degree in Introduction to Mental Health Research is an interuniversity master’s degree, delivered through blended learning, which is organized by fundamental and clinical university research groups in the area of biomedicine applied to mental health, such as the Bipolar Disorder group, that belong to the national research network CIBERSAM (Centre for Networked Biomedical Research in the Area of Mental Health).

The degree is intended for Spanish and international students interested in research in psychiatry and mental health. The objectives of the course are to promote the training of mental health researchers in both fundamental and clinical aspects of the discipline, and to encourage interaction between groups working on mental health issues to facilitate the coordination of joint projects.
