A project that seeks to make a distinction between atopic dermatitis and Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, research into the common skin condition Ichthyosis, and a better understanding of of sebaceous glands in maintaining the physiological balance and barrier function of our skin. In its most recent round of open competition for research funding, the LEO Foundation grantsawards DKK 23 million (EUR 3 million).

Three of this round’s grantees are from three different universities in Denmark: Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen, and University of Southern Denmark. In addition, a previously funded project earns a second grant, as Richard Granstein – from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in USA -continues to study the function of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in controlling skin immunity. 

The most recent round also includes participants from Germany and Spain. One of these participants, Xavier Gasull, is a professor at the University of Barcelona and is from the Fundació Clnic per a la Recerca Biomèdica (FCRB) in Spain. Michael Bader and Catherin Niemann, from the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine and University of Cologne, respectively, are the other two award beneficiaries from Germany.
