Variability is a defining feature of all biological systems. In the realm of cognition, individual differences in how we process threats and recall events can place us on a spectrum from resilience to vulnerability. These unique memory profiles emerge from the ongoing interaction of our genetic makeup and environmental factors.
At the heart of this dynamic lies the gut microbiota, a complex ecosystem of microorganisms shaped by our genetics and environment that, at the same time, exerts substantial influence on our physical, cognitive, and mental well-being. In this talk, I will explore how individual differences in learning and memory can be reflected in individuals’ gut microbiota composition. Join me as we examine the growing body of evidence linking gut microbes to memory and discuss how we might harness this knowledge to foster healthier brains and more resilient individuals in an era of personalized medicine.
