Neuropsychology
This programme focuses on how a person’s cognition and behaviour are related to the brain and the rest of the nervous system. We develop experimental and clinical studies that seek to characterise functional and structural networks to understand how brain functions affect behaviour and cognition. We are also interested in the effectiveness of interventions and treatments (e.g., phonological remediation, physical exercise, cognitive training) for improving cognitive functions, daily functioning, or quality of life.
With neuropsychology at the core, the programme investigates these phenomena in the health continuum, from healthy people to a wide range of disorders or altered health conditions (e.g., cerebral palsy, cerebrovascular diseases, dual diagnosis, learning difficulties, mild cognitive impairment, obesity) combining different methods (e.g., biomarkers, medical records, neuroimaging, neuropsychological scales, non-invasive brain stimulation).
Technologies & Methods
- MRI-related data analyses software and procedures (SPM, fsl, freesurfer, matlab)
- Neuronavigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) coupled with imaging data
- Transcranial direct current stimulation for behavioural studies and coupled with fMRI acquisitions
- Integrated ambulatory recording system of circadian rhythm (Kronowise KW5)
- Neuropsychological assessment
- Structural neuroimaging analysis
- Functional neuroimaging analysis
- Magnetic resonance imaging
