The Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona (UBneuro) successfully held its 2026 Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Meeting on April 8–9, bringing together leading international experts and institutional representatives to reflect on past achievements and define the strategic direction of the institute for the coming years.
The meeting gathered the outstanding panel of advisory board members: Kimmo Alho (University of Helsinki, Finland), Gaël Chételat (Inserm, French Institute for biomedical research, France), Frédéric Saudou (Institute of Neuroscience, University Grenoble-Alpes, France), and Isabel Fariñas (Universitat de València).
The event was opened by Prof. Josep Marco, Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation of the Faculty of Psychology and UBneuro researcher, who highlighted the institute’s growing impact and the importance of continued strategic alignment to strengthen its international positioning.
On the first day, April 8, discussions focused on reviewing UBneuro’s scientific achievements over recent years. The session, led by Jordi Alberch, UBneuro Director, and Cristina Pulido, UBneuro Research Manager, provided a comprehensive overview of the institute’s progress across its research areas.
The second day began with a visit to the new Cognitive Neuroscience Unit, led by Rubén Perellón and Andrea Marín, showcasing our cutting-edge infrastructure and ongoing research developments. Later, strategic discussions addressed the institute’s scientific priorities for the coming years, with Jordi Alberch outlining a forward-looking vision aimed at consolidating UBneuro’s role as a leading international center in neuroscience.
The meeting also included contributions from representatives of UBneuro’s four research areas, ensuring a broad and integrated perspective across disciplines.
Through open dialogue, critical evaluation, and forward-thinking proposals, the 2026 SAB Meeting marks a key milestone in shaping UBneuro’s next phase, reinforcing its ambition to remain at the forefront of neuroscience research worldwide.
