NMDAR Hypofunction at the Crossroads of Psychosis and Cognition: Insights from Schizophrenia and Anti-NMDAR Encephalitis

This two-day workshop, sponsored by the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona (UBneuro), brings together leading researchers in psychiatry, neurology, immunology, and cognitive neuroscience to examine how N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) dysfunction contributes to psychosis and cognitive impairment. By comparing schizophrenia and anti-NMDAR encephalitis—two clinically distinct but mechanistically convergent conditions—the event aims to clarify the molecular, cellular, and circuit-level pathways that underlie these shared deficits.

With contributions from internationally recognized experts, the workshop seeks to advance an integrated framework for understanding NMDAR function in health and disease, and to stimulate interdisciplinary discussion on future diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives.
