This is an event not to be missed! Save the date, November 9th, and get ready to embark on an exhilarating intellectual journey at the VI Annual PhD Workshop at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences.
PhD Community
The Institute of Neurosciences of the UB prepares activities to bridge between students and the rest of the Institute’s community with the help and dedication of the PhD Committee:
Beyond academics, we also organize social events to encourage networking and foster a sense of community among researchers. Through these initiatives, we aim to create a welcoming and dynamic environment where all PhD students feel supported and empowered.

Neurobrews
A successful event organized by the PhD Committee of the Institute of Neurosciences, University of Barcelona.
Enjoy informal talks, followed by plenty of time for discussion and networking. So grab a drink, meet new people, and share your love for neuroscience with us! Whether you’re a neuroscience student, researcher, or just have an interest in the field, NeuroBrews, do not miss it.
The event’s success would not have been possible without the support of our speakers (Nacho Rours, Esen Küçüktütüncü, Genís Campoy, Agnès Pérez-Millan, Natàlia Gorina-Careta, Macià Buades-Rotger and Alba Ortega) and the dedication of the PhD Committee ( Siham Ijjou, Clara Romera, Raquel Alsina, Pol Garcia and Irene Rodríguez)
PhD Workshop
The workshop was concluded with four round tables (each session was led by one of our SAB members) where the PhD students had the opportunity to attend to the session that they were more interested. In this mentoring session the PhD students had the chance to interact with Senior Researchers from other institutions where they can mirror to in their future. They had the opportunity to ask them many things in relations with their scientific careers and their professional experience, to know how they arrive there.
On the 29th of November 2019, the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona hosted the IV annual PhD Workshop at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Campus Bellvitge.
In addition to our own members, we proudly welcomed guests from our partner organization, the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience
On the 16th and 17th of October 2018, the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona hosted the 3rd annual PhD Workshop at the Faculty of Medicine at Hospital Clínic.
In addition to our own members, we proudly welcomed guests from our French partner organization, the Institute of Neurosciences of Grenoble.
A meeting point for the Institute’s young researchers
On November 30 and December 1, the second PhD Workshop of the Institute of Neurosciences of the UB took place. This meeting, with more than a hundred registrations –including PhDs, master’s degree students and other researchers-, took place at the Faculty of Biology. During the opening, the then director of the Institute of Neurosciences, Carles Escera, and the vice-dean for Research of the Faculty of Biology, Bru Cormand, highlighted the role of young researchers in the Institute. They also highlighted the incorporation of experts on biomedicine, pharmacy and biology to this second meeting, which adds cross-sectional and multidisciplinary views. Regarding future editions of this event, they mentioned that the PhD Workshop aims to be mobile in different campuses which are linked to the Institute.
Promising talent pool at the Institute of Neurosciences
The first PhD Workshop of the Institute of Neurosciences, held yesterday, December 15, at the Mundet Campus, kicked off with great energy. Around eighty master’s students and early-career researchers attended, eager to present, listen, teach, and learn—in short, enthusiastic about creating synergies. From the very beginning, the atmosphere was inspiring, both in the Aula del Teatre, where the scientific talks took place following the welcome speech by our Director, and in the Aula Antoni Caparrós, which hosted the poster session.
The scientific quality of the six oral presentations and 42 posters was outstanding across the board. This once again confirms that the Institute of Neurosciences has a promising talent pool, now gaining insights into their future prospects thanks to the final session, “Future Opportunities in the Academic and Non-Academic Sectors.” This session featured talks by Dr. Costa Faidella, Dr. Soriano, Dr. de Diego-Balaguer, and Dr. Verger-Maestre, who shared their experiences and encouraged our researchers.
The award for the best poster, selected by popular vote, was given to Noemí Lamonja, author of “Influence of Physical Activity and Genetics on Cognition.”
