“The future is not guaranteed.” With this message, Diana Morant, Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, opened 100xCiencia.9, the annual conference promoted by the SOMMa Alliance (Severo Ochoa Centres and María de Maeztu Units of Excellence). This year’s edition was held on 13–14 November at CaixaForum València
The event brings together leading researchers, institutional representatives and science managers to reflect on how scientific knowledge can help address major social, environmental and economic challenges. Through keynote lectures, thematic sessions and open discussions, the programme explores topics such as research integrity, the connection between science and public policy, and the collaboration between academia and society.
As a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence, the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona (UBneuro) joined this meeting to reaffirm its commitment to generating excellent neuroscience research with meaningful societal impact. Our participation underscores the role of fundamental and translational brain research in improving health, well-being and quality of life.
Among the highlights of this year’s edition are invited talks by Avelino Corma (ITQ, UPV–CSIC) on the evolution of knowledge generation and technology transfer, and Pilar Goya (IQM-CSIC), who addressed best practices in research integrity.
