The Pasqual Maragall Foundation presents the first winning project of its research grants, focusing on aging and Alzheimer’s.
The Pasqual Maragall Foundation has granted Dr. Hugo Peluffo, member of the Institute of Neurosciences (UBneuro) and professor at the University of Barcelona, the research award beques de recerca Pasqual Maragall Researchers Programme (PMRP). The inaugural edition of the program, endowed with a total of 1.5 million euros, supports clinical or translational research projects focused on Alzheimer’s or other age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
Dr. Peluffo’s project delves into the relationship between aging and Alzheimer’s, with particular attention to the role of immune cells in the nervous system. This initiative was unveiled during an educational session on Alzheimer’s prevention hosted by the Foundation, where Dr. Nina Gramunt, a neuropsychologist and Foundation expert, provided insights into adopting healthy lifestyle habits to mitigate the risk of the disease. Over 300 attendees benefited from this informative event held at the AXA Auditorium in Barcelona.
