The Institute of Neurosciences shares 2018 strategy at the General Assembly Meeting

The Institute of Neurosciences hosted its annual General Assembly Meeting on the 3rd of October, 2018. This meeting celebrated the Institute’s success from last year and looked onward to the future of the institute. Director MD. Jordi Alberch presented the Annual Report from 2017, proving 28M of ongoing funding from 2017, 365 publications with an impact factor of 1350. The assembly looked forward to the institute’s events for the rest of 2018, such as the PhD workshop on 16-17 October, which highlights outstanding work from doctoral students from the institute; NeuroArt, in which the institute collaborates with schools throughout Catalunya reaching 2.000 students under the aim of increasing creativity and engagement amongst young students in the field of neuroscience; the first annual Scientific Advisory Board meeting 16-17 October, 2018, with five renowned European researchers; and an insight into future collaboration with other international research institutes, such as CINESTAV from Mexico.

Alberch explained the role of the Maria de Maeztu grant in the institute’s strategy, including research priorities, collaboration with research institutes, and primary researchers involved. The research areas for the institute were also announced, which will aim to pursue the objectives set out in the Maria de Maeztu grant and those of the institute’s researchers.

Objectives under the new research lines are to increase internationalization of the institute, strengthen collaboration between researchers in the institute and private entities, increase internal collaboration across research groups, attract talent to the institute via substantial new scholarships, enhance enrollment of master and doctoral students, and finally, strengthen external research dissemination.
