The University of Barcelona is the Spanish university with most researchers among the most influential worldwide

The University of Barcelona is, once again, the first university in Spain with the most researchers among the most influential worldwide and it is the second most influential research centre in Spain, behind the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In total, the UB has eleven researchers on this prestigious list, published by Clarivate Analytics, which identifies the experts who lead the works with the greatest international scientific impact in several areas of study.

The Clarivate Analytics’ Highly Cited Researchers is one of the most reputable rankings in the international academic and scientific community.

The list includes the 7,125 names of the world’s leading researchers in twenty fields of science and social sciences, ranging from clinical medicine and neurosciences to agriculture, economics and the environment. These scientists come from 67 different countries, but the vast majority (83.8%) are concentrated in ten countries. They can be listed in the list of several specific fields or in the cross-field category, which identifies authors who have had a substantial influence in several fields over the last decade. Of the 7,125 researchers, 104 work in Spanish institutions.

In the selection process, Clarivate Analytics experts rigorously analyse data from highly cited papers published in scientific and social science journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index over an eleven-year period (from 2012 to 2022). This international ranking is also a key component of globally recognised rankings in the academic world, such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), better known as the Shanghai ranking.

The researchers linked to the UB who appear on the list of the world’s most influential scientists published by Clarivate Analytics in 2023 are:
